DU student ‘raped’ in Kurmitola

A female student of Dhaka University was allegedly raped on Sunday evening while she was going to her friend’s house in the city’s Kurmitola from the campus.

The victim, now undergoing treatment at the One-stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, is the member of a DU organisation.

A responsible person of the organisation talked to her.

Speaking to Prothom Alo, the person said the student had gotten on a university bus to reach her friend’s house in Kurmitola for taking preparation of examinations.

Several unidentified persons gaged her soon after she got down from the bus in Kurmitola around 5:30pm, he added.

At this, the victim lost her consciousness and then she was raped, the person continued.

The victim regained her consciousness around 10:00pm. She reached to her friend’s house in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and shared her ordeals to her.

Her classmates brought her to the campus and admitted her to the hospital.

A number of teachers including DU proctor AKM Golam Rabbani visited the victim at the hospital and talked to her.

Speaking to Prothom Alo, Cantonment police station officer-in-charge Kazi Shahan said they had come to know about the incident.

Police officials went to the hospital to talk to the victim, the OC added.
